Cassina

The Cassina Perspective

Founded in Meda by Cesare and Umberto Cassina in 1927, Cassina launched industrial design in Italy during the 50’s by taking a completely new approach which saw a shift from handcraftsmanship to serial production. Cassina was pioneering in the way that it showed a striking inclination for research and innovation, combining technological skill with traditional craftsmanship. For the first time important architects and designers were involved and encouraged to envision new designs to be transformed into projects, a characteristic that still distinguishes the company.

Today ‘The Cassina Perspective’ unites the company’s values to express the best contemporary design - avant-gardism, authenticity, excellence and the combination of technological capacity with skilled handcraftsmanship – and offers a broad panorama of configurations for the home where innovative products and Modern icons come together to create complete and, above all, welcoming environments, dialoguing according to a unique design code based on excellence.

Dress-Up! tailor-made comfort for an elegantly dressed modular sofa

Dress-Up! by Rodolfo Dordoni is available in a wide range of compositions. It is characterised by elegant details that recall dressmaking craftsmanship from the fashion world: particular attention has been given to the stitching around the back/armrest creating a refined pleat both at the front and the back from which a zip runs down to the sofa’s base, just like a tailored dress.

Maralunga by Vico Magistretti is one of the most renowned pieces of contemporary design, acclaimed winner of a Compasso d’Oro award. The concealed innovation in the way its backrest can be moved to give a low or high position – thanks to a simple bike chain mechanism - its reassuring appearance and the extreme simplicity of its soft padding, fully summarise the salient characteristics of this iconic design also available in a maxi version.

Volage EX-S by Philippe Starck is the centre of gravity of the home, a platform of energy where its user can freely live. Thanks to a complete range, this extremely comfortable sectional sofa is the refined answer for those who are looking for timeless elegance in all living environments.

The quilted capitonné workmanship, an innovative process exclusively developed on an industrial scale, features a simple and elegant stitch that hides the fastener inside the cushion allowing the upholstery to be removed. As a result its bourgeois aspect is stripped away and the sofa assumes a fresh and contemporary look.

The Back-Wing chair evolves: absolute comfort in an embracing armchair

The Back-Wing chair evolves: absolute comfort in an embracing armchair

This comfy armchair has the same distinctive aesthetics as the Back-Wing chair designed by Patricia Urquiola in 2018. The armchair’s frame, available in six colours, is composed of large solid wood sections which highlight Cassina’s expertise in wood craftsmanship. Like the Back-Wing chair, its ergonomic and enveloping backrest wraps elegantly around the body while the folds on the sides, like small wings, act as armrests, making it particularly comfortable to sink into.

8 (in Italian otto) by Piero Lissoni is the perfect palindromic proposal, with its balanced proportions and heightened comfort. This modular sofa, available in a wide range of configurations, offers extra comfort thanks to the feather inserts in the sofa’s seat, backrest and armrests which create a soft and sinking sensation.

8’s upholstery has been precisely channelled with sartorial craftsmanship into the central groove of its flexible panels, highlighting Cassina’s artisanal manufacturing skills.

The LC2 is a timeless model that has made design history. Designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand and exhibited at the Salon d’Automne in Paris in 1929, it is the archetypal armchair in the new and modern conception of furnishings understood as “domestic equipment’.  A modern icon, this piece has been authentically re-issued and exclusively produced by Cassina since 1965.

Cassina expands on the origins of Chandigarh, a project for an ideal city in India conceived by Le Corbusier, and presents four products from the city’s Capitol Complex developed by its Research and Development Centre as a tribute to Le Corbusier’s cousin Pierre Jeanneret, a key figure in the creation of the city and notoriously considered, despite the absence of documentary evidence, the author of many furnishings in the city of Chandigarh.

One of Cassina’s best-sellers, the LC4 is the quintessential chaise-longue, designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand. A true expression of the concept of relaxation, the link between form and function is reflected in the balance between its geometric purity and ergonomic intent. Today this model is also available in an“all black” version.
